Memorandum of Cooperation for the Network of Cooperation of Municipalities of the Attica Islands P.E.

The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Network, Mr. Efstratios Harhalakis and the Director of the Postgraduate Studies Programme and Professor of the Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus, Mr.

The Cooperation Network of Municipalities of the Attica Islands and the Postgraduate Studies Programme (MSc) “Port Management and Coastal Economy”, of the Department of Maritime Studies, University of Piraeus, inaugurated the beginning of their promising cooperation in areas of common interest with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.

The Memorandum of Cooperation was signed by the Chairman of the Board of the Network, Mr. Efstratios Harhalakis and the Director of the Postgraduate Studies Programme and Professor of the Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus, Mr. Konstantinos Chlomoudis.

The cooperation between the two institutions concerns, among other things, the practical training of postgraduate students, through the transnational project «Blue Growth Incubators Network», in which the Network is the National Coordinator and six (6) other OCTs participate, namely the Development Agency of Parnonas, Kavala, Thessaloniki (2 regions), Messinia, as well as one OCT from Bulgaria. The transnational project is co-financed by Community funds from the European Fisheries and Maritime Fund (EMFF), under the CLLD/LEADER Local Programme.

The cooperation with the Postgraduate Department “Port Management and Coastal Economy” creates a basis in the context of the developments of the development process, as well as the developments in the coastal areas that constitute the main area of development of the transnational project.

The aim of the stakeholders is to create a network of Blue Growth Incubators, with the aim of sustainable development of these areas, through actions across the whole range of interconnected «traditional» and «emerging» sectors related to the seas and coasts.

On the occasion of the signing of the Memorandum, the President of the Network and Mayor of Kythera & Antikythera, κ. Efstratios Harhalakis he commented: «Today we inaugurate the start of our cooperation with the Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus, a school with a very high academic level and international recognition. We strongly believe in the connection and cooperation between the market and academia and look forward to a close and mutually beneficial relationship that will promote our common goals.».

The Director of the Postgraduate Studies Programme of the Department of Maritime Studies of the University of Piraeus, Professor κ. Konstantinos Chlomoudis, he pointed out: «In an ever-changing era, through the signing of this Memorandum, we are strengthening the professional link between students and the market. At the same time, this creative synergy contributes to the dissemination of applied knowledge to society with a view to progress and prosperity».
