In a statement sent by the president of the Municipal Community of Kythera (Chora, Kalamos) Manolis Kousouris to Kythera.News, he attempts to enlighten the citizens and readers on the issue of the maintenance of the monument - road roller «Olga», after the extent of the publicity it received regarding the unfortunate coloring of the monument. UPDATE ON THE ISSUE OF PAVING
Dear fellow citizens, I feel obliged to provide you with a full update on the coloring of the «ROADWORK» that took place recently, as I had the opportunity to witness the whole affair:
- A good friend of mine, who wishes to remain anonymous (I take this opportunity to thank him warmly for his act), who loves our island and is a lover of such machines, informed me that he was willing to maintain at his own expense the well-known machine at the entrance of Chora, so that it will continue to adorn for many years the place where it has been placed and be a symbol of the island's past infrastructure works.
In consultation with the Deputy Mayor, Mr. Charalambos Sougiannis, it was decided to paint it in the colours it was painted in without any changes, as until then there had been no reactions from bodies and citizens for its colouring.
Unfortunately, while the painting work was almost completed, the deputy mayor Mr. Georgios Kominos went to the site, scolded the craftsmen for painting it in the colours it was originally painted in and demanded that they stop the work and follow him to the Town Hall (again, good thing he didn't take them to the police).
As for the final result that we see and so much issue has been rightly created , responsible solely is Mr. Kominos Georgios, who demanded to be painted as we see the Road Roller in the blackness, as he claimed that it should be so because he had seen somewhere painted a similar, charging of course accordingly and the cost of the work, writing in the oldest of his shoes and the views of the architect deputy mayor, the sponsor, the President of the Local Community of Chora and as it is the public opinion of visitors and residents.
In a meeting I had with the Mayor, on the same issue, we decided to investigate to find original photos of these machines from the factory, as they were found. You will find that the aesthetic effect is very different.
Finally, I would like to inform you that volunteers and sponsors have offered to correct this ugliness.
