Vaccine: The platform for the over-80s opens - The plan for the islands

The progress of vaccination and planning for the islands.

Opens today Friday, 22/01/21, the platform of vaccination appointment for 80-84 year olds. As of yesterday (Thursday), 32,701 citizens over 85, 81,000 health workers and more than 7,000 in nursing homes had been vaccinated.

A total of 123,077 vaccinations have been administered since 27 December until Thursday, i.e. 1.13% of the population has been vaccinated. The appointments booked for 1st and 2nd dose, amount to 400 thousand.

During the briefing on the pandemic, the Secretary General for Primary Health Care Marios Themistocleous, reminded citizens of the ways in which they can make an appointment for vaccination against COVID-19.

In the first case, where the citizen is registered with the intangible prescription, he will automatically receive a message on his mobile phone asking him to confirm the appointment. If he does not do so, he does not lose his turn and can enter the platform and enter his SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER to make an appointment at his/her preferred vaccination centre.

The second way is through the emvolio.gov.gr platform, where the person concerned enters his/her AMKA to activate the procedure.

The third way to make an appointment is through any of the following pharmacy ή KEP.

Mr Themostokleous explained that the person concerned can cancel his appointment 72 hours before the scheduled time, while he clarified that if he does not attend, he can make a new appointment, provided that a month will pass.

Vaccination planning on the islands

The design, as analysed by the supply chain manager, Brigadier General Aristos Perris, includes 4 phases.

  • The first phase concerns 18 islands where there are hospital units. Vaccination is already being implemented. Started 11 January for health reasons and from 18 January for permanent residents of these islands based on the prioritisation of the National Vaccination Committee. The transport of the vaccines is free of charge by air and assisted by the staff of the Armed Forces, of Security Bodies as well as within the GGP.
  • The second phase concerns 12 islands with a population of over 3.500 inhabitants. Vaccination will start on 28 January, with residents over 80 years old. Vaccines are also transported here by air and will also be transported by ferry.
  • The third phase concerns 19 islands, which have a population of 1.000 - 3.500 inhabitants. The transport of the vaccines will require a combination of air and sea transport.
  • The fourth phase concerns islands with a population of less than 1.000 inhabitants. The vaccination will be carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the TA. The vaccination of the population over 18 years of age is expected to be completed in February. The transport of vaccines and any health personnel that may be required will be carried out by air means available to the GNSS, the GGP as well as vessels of the Coast Guard. The start is made with the Kastellorizo, where from 27 to 30 January all residents over the age of 18 will be vaccinated.
