The parents of the 3rd high school of Salamina held a protest outside the school, reacting to the decision to merge the departments. In the letter of protest sent by the parents, they expressed their strong dissatisfaction with the creation of classes with an excessively large number of students, which is contrary to the legal limit of 2 square meters per student, as stipulated by the PD 41-2018. The parents stress that the coexistence of 29 or more students in a classroom degrades the educational process and increases public health risks due to possible infections. At the same time, they refer to the shortage of teachers, asking for immediate filling of the vacancies so that the school year can start smoothly without any cuts in the education of their children. The ELME of Piraeus has also expressed its support to the parents' struggle. Read the letter of protest of the parents.
LETTER OF CONTRIBUTION FROM THE PARENTS OF THE 3rd SCHOOL OF SALAMINA
Vineyards of Salamina,
September 18, 2024
Honourable gentlemen,
Following the information we received from our school's administration, we were informed about the merger of classes at the Abelakia High School of Salamina.
So this implies with «sardelization» of our children in classrooms not suitable as we all know that the students are provided under the law PD 41-2018 to have 2sqm space / student . Besides we are talking about a reduction of teachers that for years we parents and school directors have been begging us to hire teaching staff so that there are no gaps and reduced hours of classes in our schools so that our children can attend school normally at last!!
Instead, the opposite always happens and now comes the next blow for students to have 29+ students coexisting in the same class!
So the shrinking of departments has consequences for both teaching staff and students! Infections, illnesses and the lack of concentration of students in such large numbers is bad for their learning!
Please take care of the issue so that we as parents stop the mobilizations and appoint teachers on time to start the school year without problems and with the number of classes as required by law!
We accept no cuts and no mergers in the education of our children!!!!!!!!!
With respect
The Parents and Guardians Association of the High School of Ambelakia in Salamina
