Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said COVID-19 leave payments for people who are required to isolate will continue at current rates beyond September 30.
As he said, the emergency benefits will remain available for as long as the mandatory isolation period remains in effect in the states and territories.
«While the government requires mandatory isolation, the government has an obligation to provide support,» Mr. Albanese said after the National Council meeting.
«Obviously, we maintain the view that if people are sick, whether from COVID or other health problems, then they should not be at work, and that is important.».
Leave allowances have cost taxpayers over $2.2 billion since the start of the pandemic.
