The occasion for this report, was the posting on Transparency and the Register of Public Procurement, the notice for the tender for the project «Asphalting of the Road to Chalko», a project with a total budget of 88.000€, covered by the Public Investment Programme (PIP).
At the same time, the Mayor signed the contract for the construction of the project, «Agricultural Road of Kythera, at the “Vergomenou” location” for Improving Access to a Poultry Facility», and the contract for the repair of damages in earthquake-affected school buildings, while, for its part, the Financial Committee of the Municipality, approved the declaration of the project «Mormori - Avlemona Road» and the study for the project «Renovation - Fitting of the Children's Centre in Logothetianika».
At the same time, Kythera.News published the presentation of the General Water Resources Management Plan Municipality of Kythera (master plan), while the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy subsidised the Municipality 188.400 € for the execution of 2 important water supply projects, concerning a drilling in Agia Pelagia and the replacement of an old pipeline in the tank of Vigla.

In October, the expedition began work on the archaeological survey of the famous Antikythera Shipwreck, with the support of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, while the research on the Classical shipwreck found in the Strait of St. Petersburg was completed. Improvements in the Holy Shrines
In October, renovations and improvements were made to the two coronades of the holy shrines of Kythera and Antikythera. Bright, more than adequate, on the contrary, the nights are expected from now on in Capsali, with the installation of the new lighting, which, however, has stirred up a storm of reactions from residents and visitors, because of the excessive intensity in which it emits. This was evident in online debate, which was attended by a large number of people, as a public prosecutor and the Mayor of the island, Efstratios Harhalakis, as a line of defence.
Stray souls, growing and multiplying
One of the major problems that have been plaguing Kythera in recent years is undoubtedly the increase in the number of stray domestic animals and wild goats on the island. Kythera.News opened the stray file, addressed to institutions and through the reportage, it turned out that more is needed targeted cooperation between all stakeholders regarding domestic animals and creation of a management code through a contract between the Municipality and animal traders, as revealed to Kythera.News the Deputy Mayor, Mr. George Kominos.
Kythera, an alternative place
Kythera, as a predominantly mystical place, has always functioned as a peculiar «Swimming Pool of Siloam» for people seeking a holistic redefinition. To this end, the island has always attracted alternative forms of self-healing, such as the sound bath practiced by Katia Foteinopoulou, through her excellent cooperation during the summers with the El Sol Hotel and Vanessa Raikou and for which she agreed to talk -among others- to the camera of Kythera.News.
The services of alternative therapies offered - with emphasis on speech therapy, occupational therapy and learning support as well as parental counselling - were introduced to Tsirigotes and the Kids First Team, in its passage from the island of Aphrodite.
Kythera of traditions
Kythera, as a part of the national core and the Greek consciousness, always honours traditions. As every year, this year too, it was celebrated with great splendour the national anniversary of 28 October, while the Kythiraikos Association of Athens participated in the anniversary event of the Ionian Confederation, on the contribution of the Ionian Islands to the revolution of 1821.
Elections from within
In Kythera were held elections for the local DIMTO of the New Democracy, with Anthony Mavrommatis triumphing and succeeding the outgoing president, Dimitris Kalligeros. On 27 October, in fact, a meeting was held at the Kamares Multivenue the first meeting of the local party organisation under its new composition, while the newly elected President made his first statements, on taking up his duties.
