Archaeological research continues at the Antikythera Shipwreck

With the support of Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, the expedition for the archaeological research in the famous Antikythera Shipwreck. The merchant ship that sank in the Antikythera laying 1ο century BC, taking to the bottom of the sea unique works of art, but also the world's first analogue computer, the Antikythera Mechanism, will once again become the «theatre of operations» for archaeologists.

The long-time Director of Research, Dr. Angeliki Simossi, Head of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Evia, is cooperating with the Swiss School of Archaeology and the Professor of the University of Geneva, Lorenz Baumer, for the continuation of archaeological research in a place that still «hides secrets». Framed by an experienced team of diving archaeologists and divers, in order to effectively proceed with the work at a depth of about 50 m where the wreck is located.

The archaeological mission to the Antikythera Shipwreck is supported for one more year by the Municipality of Kythira, while the  Athanasios K. Laskaridis Public Benefit Foundation, supports the effort by providing the ship «Typhoon» for the needs of the investigation.
