An important news is transmitted by the TornosNews which states that the building department of the municipality of Piraeus has granted a permit to the Kytherian businessman Spyros Magiros for the construction of a camping site in Kythera.
According to information, the new investment is located in Paleopolis Kythera. This particular business move comes to offer a quite interesting and attractive proposal to Greek and foreign campers.
It is an interesting development that marks the reintroduction of Kythera to the holiday map of campers everywhere, which, as it is known from the past, has an annual audience of more than 5,000.
After a long period without an open infrastructure in the field of organized camping, since the local government is in inactivity on the issue of municipal camping, the news comes as a relief to the island. Many campers visiting the island in recent years have experienced the frustration of unavailable camping infrastructure.
It should be noted that Greece attracts almost 500,000 campers annually (at least until 2019), according to ELSTAT data. The statistics also list Germans, Italians, Bulgarians and French as the best customers of Greek camping, while the preference of Australians for organized camping in the Dodecanese is of great interest. In neighbouring Laconia there are currently eight organised campsites, while the connection between Githio and Kissamos is the most popular route for campers, as it connects two of the most important camping destinations in Greece, the Peloponnese and Crete.
In any case, although our country is lagging behind other European countries in campers' tourism (seasonality is the main problem and then capacity), the future looks very optimistic, especially in the post-pandemic era. The same applies to Kythera.
