Russia alarmed by the Turkish base project in Azerbaijan

Moscow is closely monitoring developments around a new military base that may be created by the Turkey in Azerbaijan, which would require the Russia to take measures to ensure its own security and interests.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is in close contact with NATO member Turkey to stabilize the situation in the South Caucasus, where Azerbaijani and Armenian forces fought last year.

Turkey and Azerbaijan announced earlier this week that they are increasing their cooperation in the military sector.
