Parents from Thessaloniki complain that they lost their baby due to the irresponsibility of doctors at two hospitals in the city.
As they claim, they were kicked out of the Hippocrates Hospital because the on-call duty was ending while in Papageorgiou precious time was lost until the woman underwent a caesarean section.
The parents filed a lawsuit asking that the doctors who attended the incident be prosecuted.
According to what the family's lawyer, Charalambos Apostolidis told Open, on February 26, 2022, the woman, who was in her 39th week of pregnancy, went at 7:00 in the morning to the Hippocrates Hospital with severe pains and bleeding, but after she had an ultrasound and cardiotocogram, she was sent away, as she was told that the on-call duty was ending.
According to the complaint, she was also allegedly told that there was no risk of her giving birth prematurely and that, if there was an issue, she should be transferred to an on-call hospital.
In fact, as he said, they did not even provide her with an ambulance and the woman was transferred by car at 8:00 at Papageorgiou. As they complain, there was no immediate action there either as she was first taken to a Covid clinic. Finally, she underwent a caesarean section three hours later, at 11:00, and gave birth to a baby boy with hypoxaemic encephalopathy having suffered placental abruption and ruptured uterus, complications they attribute to the delayed treatment of the case by doctors.
The unfortunate infant had no pulse and remained hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Papageorgiou Hospital where he died a few days ago. The mother was also hospitalized in serious condition after the caesarean section.
The parents are now demanding answers for the death of their baby, complaining of irresponsibility on the part of the doctors, while they stress that the doctors of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Papageorgiou, where the baby was transferred intubated, did everything to rectify the situation.
