Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will chair a government meeting on Monday at 13:00 at the Maximos Mansion on food supply and strengthening the primary sector.
The Minister of Rural Development will participate in the meeting, George Georgantas, in order to examine any shortcomings that may arise due to the war in Ukraine, foodstuffs and raw materials in general in the primary sector.
Mr Mitsotakis, announcing today's meeting last Friday from Brussels, stressed that the global food crisis is of concern to the government although, as he pointed out, «it does not concern our country, but we must be prepared for such a crisis».
«There is no food risk for our country,» sources from the Ministry of Rural Development and Food told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, noting that during the meeting the government's next steps to prevent any food risk will be examined.
The meeting between Mr Mitsotakis and Mr Georgantas will also focus on two other issues.
The first concerns the an increase in feed prices. The government's intention is to allocate €40 million to help farmers.
The second, equally important issue, is the price of fertilisers, which since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine has seen a sharp increase.
