Mayor meets with Antikythira residents to discuss projects on the island

The mayor of Kythera/Antikythera, Efstratios Harhalakis, was in Antikythera on Wednesday, where he held an information meeting with residents about the projects that have been completed on the island and those that follow.

Mr. Harhalakis wrote on his personal Facebook account:

Meeting with the residents of Antikythera

Tonight I was in my hometown, Antikythera, where I gathered the residents for a general briefing on the projects that our Municipality has completed on the island and what is to come. Specifically:

  1. The new ring road of Potamos settlement was completed, where the safety barriers were installed, with funding of 220.000 € from the Region of Attica.
  2. The desalination plant is operating again this year with funding from the Ministry of National Development.
  3. The construction of the Monument of the Symi Dytes has been completed and will be placed on the island soon.
    Next:
  4. In the autumn, the big project of the River regeneration will start with funding from the Green Fund and a budget of 252.000 €.
  5. The maintenance of rural roads was commissioned.
  6. In the autumn, the thorough maintenance and renovation of all the water supply tanks of the island begins.
  7. In 2022, the permanent desalination plant, funded by the TRITSIS programme, will be put out to tender, providing 100 cubic metres of water per day, solving the island's water supply problem once and for all.
  8. The National Observatory of Athens, the national infrastructure of Greece for Climate Change, is awaiting the tendering of “PAGAYA”. This is a project of huge importance that has been funded by the European Investment Bank and will turn our island into a pan-European scientific hub, changing its fate for good.

Finally, we discussed in detail the renovation work of the Monastery of St. Myronos, which is being completed at the expense of our great benefactor Mr. Athanasios Martinos.

It was unanimously decided to hold the traditional feast and the Antikythera farmers decided this year to offer the meat as a thank you to Mr. Athanasios Martinos and as a sign of gratitude for the enormous work he has done in our country.

All residents will contribute - each according to their abilities - in order for this year's celebration to be brilliant, as it will be combined with the opening of the Church after 2 years of renovation work.
Thanks to all the residents for their support!
