The event of open discussion on “Women in the Front Line of Everyday Life”, organized by the IEPC A’ Piraeus & Islands on the occasion of the International Women's Day, was attended by the leader of our party, Mr. Zacharias Souris, after an honorary invitation by the President of the IEPC A’ Piraeus & Islands, Mr. Michael Koulizakos.
The event was held at the Municipal Gallery of Piraeus, with the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Ms. Niki Kerameos, as keynote speaker. Also present were the Minister of Family and Social Cohesion, Mrs. Domna Michaelidou, and the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Mr. Konstantinos Katsafados, as well as representatives of local government and civil society.
On the sidelines of the event, Mr.Souris intervened in the discussion and referred in particular to the island woman and the increased challenges she faces in her daily life. He pointed out the need for targeted policies that take into account the specificities of insularity, access to work, health and social care structures, as well as support for maternity and family in our islands.
He stressed that the empowerment of women, especially in island Greece, is a matter of equality and essential regional development.
Supporting women who live and create on our islands is a prerequisite for social cohesion, demographic strengthening and sustainable prospects for local communities.
