One of the most important representatives of electronic music in France, the duo Daft Punk, founded in 1993, have ended their collaboration, as their press officer confirmed today to Agence France-Presse, following the publication of a video on YouTube.
Entitled “Epilogue”, the 8-minute video presents excerpts from their 2006 film Electrorama, featuring the two artists, Tomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel di Odom Cristo, appearing as two robots in the desert. The volume peaks after one of the two robots explodes, before “1993-2021” appears on screen.
Daft Punk, the duo formed in Paris in 1993, established themselves as the pioneers of French house (French Touch) with the release of their first album Homework in 1997. The album included their first song “Around the world”, which helped them become known worldwide.
Four years later, their second album “Discovery” would recycle 1980s pop and disco, writing hit songs.
More darkly, their third album “Human after all” (2005) will instead be a failure, for critics and audiences alike. Their last album would be “Random Access Memories”, in 2013. There, their song “Get Lucky”, featuring Farrell Williams, would become a worldwide hit.
