The 17-month ultimatum given by the European section of the Nike (NIKE EUROPEAN OPERATION NETHERLANDS - NEON) in 91 Greek sports retailers in which prohibits from 27 October 2021 to buy its products and resell them, keeps the market busy.
It will be recalled that Nike, in its letter, states that it has decide to discontinue the business cooperation with the above mentioned stores from the end of the SU22 season (summer 2022) and therefore the business relationship will automatically expire on 31 May 2022 without be required no additional warning. As The last season to be delivered to the dealers was set for SU22 (summer 2022).
According to ultimatum letter sent to them, the strategy of these Greek businessmen is not in line with its strategic plans. The Greek traders denounce the multinational for monopolistic practices and unfair competition, and according to reports, Nike intends to to close the physical stores of Kallithea, Peristeri, one of the two in Glyfada, Larissa, Komotini, Patras and maybe the Tsimiski store in Thessaloniki.
So, at this time, the 91 Greek businesses must within six seasons be able to find a way to make up for the «lost» merchandise of a company whose product sales can be correspond even to 80% of the turnover of some of them.
The commercial world has been informed of this development and Greek MEPs, with some planning to take the matter to the European Parliament. On the matter, the President of the European Commission is reported to have been informed and the Minister for Development Adonis Georgiades. At the same time, the commercial world is planning the legal action against NEON, in case the company does not respond immediately to their requests.
It is noted that these 91 enterprises employ more than 1,000 employees, whose positions are now in question.
