Greece was ranked among the best economies in the eurozone by the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, speaking at an event of the Fund ahead of the Spring Meetings, according to the Ministry of National Economy and Finance.
He also made special reference to the Greek Minister of Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis, noting that his election to the Eurogroup Presidency confirms the restoration of the country's credibility and its enhanced presence at the core of European developments. At the same time, referring to the crisis of the past decade and the difficult reforms that have been implemented, she underlined that Greece's progress is a prime example of how political will, consistency and commitment to change can lead to a strong recovery.
The head of the International Monetary Fund said:
«I want to make a special reference to countries like Greece, Ireland and Portugal. They found themselves in a huge crisis, the eurozone crisis. I am very grateful to our teams at the IMF for the work the Fund has done with these countries. And look at them now: they are among the best performing economies in Europe. And how did they do it? You grit your teeth, you do the hard stuff, you get people on board. And the fact that today the president of the eurozone is the Greek finance minister confirms it. Political will, commitment and the ability to make difficult reforms are paying off.».
