The issue of water supply in Kythera has gone beyond the limits causing serious inconvenience to residents and visitors of the island, as recorded in recent publications of AdelinFM. On September 9, 2024, the residents of Aroniadika and Gerakitianikon found themselves for yet another day without water, to the point that Mr.Vassilis Spiliotopoulos asks for the resignation of the municipal authority, accusing the Mayor of Kythera, Efstratios Harhalakis, for inaction.
But the problems are not limited to this area. In Agia Pelagia, where there have been repeated failures in the water pipeline, the situation is getting worse and worse. On 7 September 2024, there was another failure, the eighth in a few weeks, which caused water to flow out to sea. Residents and professionals in the area are suffering greatly, and the repair carried out only the day before has not been able to prevent a new problem from occurring. At the same time, according to the AdelinFM in a report, a water leak in the same area has remained unresolved for over a week, with water being lost without any intervention by the relevant authorities. This is a point near the Romantica Hotel.
In recent days there has been a climate of strong dissatisfaction with the local authorities, with complaints multiplying. The damage to the water pipes is becoming a recurring problem that affects the daily lives of residents and the image of the island to visitors, especially during the tourist season. Calls for a more immediate and effective response to the issues remain strong.
