Crete ranks among the best wedding destinations in Greece

The best wedding destinations in Greece revealed large international survey by the travel company Stasher, based on ratings using criteria related to accommodation, restaurants, attractions, and weather conditions.

As highlighted, online searches for honeymoons in Greece have increased by 331% over the last year, mainly due to the relaxation of Covid-19 measures, but also due to the exceptional accommodation options available.

Crete ranks first with a score of 78/100 due to its climate, coastline, and cuisine, while Karpathos ranks second with 77/100 thanks to its peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty. Next are Milos with 74/100 and Kalymnos, which is tied with Astypalea and Rhodes with a score of 73/100. Ios completes the top five with 71/100.

Representatives of the destinations state:

«Karpathos has all the «raw materials« it needs to become a destination for newlyweds. Our picturesque and traditional villages, exotic beaches of incomparable beauty, local cuisine, quality accommodation, and a wide range of vacation options and special forms of tourism create an ideal environment for newlyweds. For this reason, meetings are being planned at the WTM international exhibition with bloggers and journalists who also target tourism for couples and newlyweds,» notes Manolis Paragios, Deputy Mayor of Tourism for the Municipality of Karpathos.

«Kalymnos has had a very satisfactory tourist season with high performance in September and October. Indicatively, there was a significant increase in air arrivals from April to the end of August by 85.31% compared to 2019, while visitor numbers were clearly boosted by expatriates and tour operators. The multitude of options, such as diving and hundreds of climbing areas, have contributed to the extension of the tourist season, while wedding tourism also has prospects,» said Kalymnos Mayor Dimitris Diakomichalis.

«This year in Ios, we took a step towards extending the tourist season, as evidenced by the 13.51% increase in ferry arrivals in September compared to the same period in 2019. Attractions such as walking tourism, the Ios Festival, water activities, and gastronomy deepen our tourist appeal. Added to these is wedding tourism, especially for the month of September, which also contributed to the increase in arrivals,» added the mayor of Ios, Gikas Gikas.

«Astypalea is evolving into a destination of authenticity, quality, and sustainability, gaining ground in terms of arrivals from abroad. The increase achieved this year is impressive, with a 521% increase in air arrivals and a 7.41% increase in ferry arrivals from May to August compared to 2019, justifying the new strategy that has been adopted. With idyllic landscapes, gastronomy, and excellent professional services as allies, honeymoon tourism has its own place and can contribute to the extension of the tourist season,» says the mayor of Astypalaia, Nikos Komineas.
