«Through the tourism promotion program, the main objective of the synergies that the municipality of Skiathos has caused for promotional and co-advertising actions is the dynamic presence of the destination on the map of the tourist market, as well as its systematic promotion.» This is what the mayor of Skiathos, Theodoros Tzoumas, stresses to the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency on the occasion of the new tourist season. According to the municipal authority, 2025 was a milestone year for Skiathos, with passenger traffic closing at historically high levels reaching 318,989 travellers, recording an increase of 6.4% compared to 2024, while Skiathos airport was ranked third among the 14 airports managed by Fraport, after Thessaloniki (8.0%) and Kavala (7.7%). For 2025 the last international flight took off on 1 November, while for 2026 the tourist season starts this month, with the first international flight on 29 March, the EasyJet flight from Bristol Airport.
Regarding the tourism promotion programme, the municipality of Skiathos, according to the municipal authority, has implemented a programme for the tourism promotion of the island for 2025, with a total budget of 500,000 euros, aiming to expand the tourist season and open up to new markets, in combination with the promotion of the uniqueness of the destination, creating a sustainable and modern strategy based on future trends and international standards. The main actions of the tourism promotion programme are co-promotion with tourism organisations and public transport campaigns. Particular emphasis is given to co-advertising actions with airlines.
The municipal authority, stresses Mr.Tzoumas, «continues its actions, aiming to expand the tourist season and open up to new markets, in combination with the promotion of the uniqueness of the destination, creating a sustainable and modern strategy based on future trends and international standards». An important strategic partner of the municipality is Fraport, which is implementing incentives for the months of March and November, with a discount per passenger for airlines that include routes in their schedule, in order to boost traffic.
