The opera singer Margarita Sygeniotou has made an extremely serious complaint, noting in a Facebook post that «Ms Mendoni has misrepresented an official EU text to justify her policy. And she is once again targeting culture. Just like that».
According to the singer's complaint, which cites the relevant documents, no decision has been taken to cut off relations with cultural organisations in Russia, but the Greek Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, voluntarily falsified an official document of the European Union, namely the text of the Declaration of the Ministers of Culture, Audiovisual and Media on the war in Ukraine and the measures to be taken in order to impose censorship.
As he notes, the Declaration (to which he attaches) does not contain a decision to sever EU relations with Russian cultural organisations.
More specifically, according to a statement by the Ministry of Culture ministers: «In their Declaration, the Ministers of Culture, Audiovisual and Media of the European Union stressed that EU relations with Russian cultural organisations should be broken, as art is used as an instrument of propaganda.».
However, the text of the Declaration does not contain this phrase!
Her post reads:
«In the first two photos, the EU decision. In the third, the press release of the Ministry of Culture. The phrase is nowhere in the European text. In other words, Mendoni misrepresented an official EU text to justify her policy. And she is once again targeting Culture. Just like that.».
