Weather: bad weather on Tuesday across the country with heavy rain and thunderstorms

On Tuesday, bad weather will prevail throughout the country with locally heavy rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by increased electrical activity and hailstorms.

The strongest phenomena will be located from the beginning of the day in Western Greece and after noon will extend to Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the Aegean islands and Crete, with emphasis on the East Aegean islands and the Dodecanese. Heavy snowfall will occur in the mountainous continental areas, with indicative altitudes above 1,000-1,100 meters in Epirus and Western Macedonia and above 1,400-1,500 meters in the rest.

According to the meteo of the National Observatory of Athens, the temperature will range from 1 to 9 degrees Celsius in Western Macedonia, from 4 to 14 degrees Celsius in the rest of Northern Greece, from 6 to 13 degrees Celsius in Epirus, from 5 to 15 degrees Celsius in Thessaly, from 9 to 16 degrees Celsius in the rest of the mainland, from 10 to 15 degrees Celsius in the Ionian Islands and from 11 to 16-18 degrees Celsius in the Aegean Islands and Crete.

The winds in the Aegean will initially blow south with intensities of 7-8 Beaufort and from the afternoon southwest with a slight weakening to 6-7 Beaufort. In the Ionian Sea the winds will initially blow west southwest at 6-7 Beaufort and from the afternoon northwest at the same intensity.

In Attica, clouds are expected, with showers and thunderstorms in the morning hours. The phenomena will be transiently intense and may be accompanied by occasional hail. At noon the weather will improve, but there is an increased chance of rain in some places in the afternoon and evening hours. Winds will blow from southerly directions with force 6-7 Beaufort and from the afternoon from westerly directions with force 5-6 Beaufort. The temperature will range from 13 to 16 degrees.

In Thessaloniki, clouds with showers are expected mainly until noon, while then there is a possibility of light showers in places and at times. Winds will blow south at 4-5 Beaufort and after midday west northwest at the same intensity. The temperature will range from 10 to 13 degrees.
