The assessment that Kythera presents a slightly better picture in the middle of the summer season in terms of tourist traffic than the corresponding period of 2019, expressed the tourism promotion officer of the island Panagiotis Gianniotis.
Mr Gianniotis, who was hosted in the ERT3 studio and in the show “Summer Hour”, referred to the effort to make Kythera a 4-season destination, something «not particularly easy» as he said, but not impossible if we take into account that «spring, summer and autumn are doing very well, thanks to activities such as trails».
Mr. Gianniotis focused on the alternative tourism infrastructure that has been developed in Tsirigo, with emphasis on diving and sea kayaking.
He made special mention of the island's «amazing hinterland», with its traditional settlements, the scattered monuments, the Venetian castles, the springs and the waterfalls, while he emphasized the gastronomy that is «doing very well», due to the «excellent local products», such as olive oil and honey.
Finally, he referred to the hotel infrastructure, which has a «wide range» of accommodation, from simple rooms to 4-star hotels. He also reminded the ways of access to the island by public transport, with special reference to the air connection between Thessaloniki and Kythera via Kalamata, which will be activated from 01/01/23.
