The death toll from the attacks reached 165 catastrophic floods that occurred in the western Germany, according to current figures, while many people are still missing.
In the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, which was hardest hit by the deadly storms, «the death toll now stands at 117», up from 112 previously, «and there are 749 injured», said Verena Sawyer, a spokeswoman for the Koblenz police.
German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer is expected to visit the affected areas today, mainly in Bad Neuenahr-Arweiler, one of the flooded valleys.
Yesterday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited Schuld in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and assured those affected by the deadly floods that the federal government would offer them help.
