Η Ocean Sun signed an agreement with MP Quantum Group for development floating solar energy, based on Ocean Sun's proprietary technology in Greece and Cyprus.
«We are delighted to start this partnership with one of the most renowned business families in Greece. MP has a strong team and a good plan to develop floating solar power in the region at utility scale. The Alafouzos family has an impressive track record of successful businesses and we are honored to have them represent us by developing and implementing Ocean Sun's floating PV systems,» said the CEO and founder of the company.
«Floating age energy is a highly compatible element with the energy markets in Greece and Cyprus, with good radiation, water resources and a commitment by the authorities to promote the transition to renewable energy. Ocean Sun has a world leading solution for floating solar power with low capex and high power. In addition, the system's seaworthiness enables deployment along our extensive coastline and island communities,» says Yannis Alafouzos, President of MP Quantum Group.
As two countries located in the southern region of the European Union, Greece and Cyprus' solar radiation levels offer the guarantees for satisfactory returns on investment in solar energy.
In addition, the National Energy and Climate Plan for Greece has set ambitious targets, aiming for 35% of energy to come from renewable sources by 2030 and the phasing out of lignite-based energy production by 2028. According to HELAPCO, a non-profit organisation representing major Greek photovoltaic companies, this implies an average installed photovoltaic capacity of 400-500 megawatts (MW) per year by 2030. The large coastlines, islands and and inland water resources constitute the perfect combination with floating solar energy.
