Abraham Zelilidis, Professor of Geology at the University of Patras, opens the file on minerals in Greece to BankingNews.gr and explains the games of governments that leave untapped the inestimable treasures that would give a great economic breath to the tormented Greek people.

Not because the companies don't want to, but because: «Everything in Greece is in the interest of the big business and the government doesn't want oil. I don't think I will see drilling in Greece,» says the professor!
The Greek State is the enemy of mining - Chevron's land is nowhere to be found on the map of the EDEYEP!

«The enemy for mining has always been the Greek State.
They fought me because I was shouting that there were hydrocarbon deposits,» he says.
While it reveals that the official map of EDEYEP, the Hellenic Hydrocarbon and Energy Resources Management Company, does not include the two plots of land south and southeast of Crete that were registered to Chevron.
Abraham Zelilides talks about the areas marked «special status» on the official map of the EDEYEP, the overseas islands on the border with Albania: «We do not have an EEZ with Albania, but the neighbouring country has put its own land out to tender», he stresses.

The professor is a catalyst for the paradoxes that occur. As he says, the most ready plot for drilling is «Block 2», with up to 400 million gas and oil equivalent. While the huge field in «Block Ionian» is estimated to be «the equivalent of the Durres Basin of 5 billion barrels of oil»!
