An allowance of €534: Ongoing declarations - The 3 options for businesses

The declaration procedure for the January 534 euro allowance has started.

Since yesterday, Tuesday 19 January the procedure for submitting declarations for the allowance of €534, for those who are on work suspension. This procedure will last until 31 January, in order to allow the beneficiaries be paid on special purpose compensation for January. The declarations are submitted in accordance with local, sectoral and national lockdown as the businesses submit a declaration for the period they are closed by government order and second statement for the period that is open but affected.

The lists of closed and affected IDs are drawn up on a weekly basis and currently for the period 18 - 25 January. For example, for the current week (18-25/1) the open but affected IDCs include retail trade, while in the closed URL remains the focus, sport, culture, etc.

The 3 options for those opening after the lockdown

According to the report by Yannis Foskolos for ethnos.gr, based on the model that is traditionally in force for contract suspensions, the businesses belonging to the affected parties under CDD may suspend part or even all of their employees, i.e. up to 100%. That is businesses opening after the lockdown have three options:

  1. Revoke all suspensions of employees and as a result all the employees of the company return back to work. In this case, employers file only one return for the period in which they were closed by state mandate (e.g., January 1-17). The employees will receive part of the 534 euros from the state, e.g. 303 euros for the first 17 days of January. For the remaining period of the month, e.g. 18-31 January, employees must receive a pro rata share of their wages from the employer.
  2. They only revoke part of their employee suspensions and keep another part on contract suspension. For example, a retail store with 5 employees. Keep 3 on parole until the end of January and «breaks» the suspension for the 2 of them in order to accommodate the period of operation. He submits two returns to «Ergani» : one return for the period the business is closed by government order declaring all 5 employees suspended and another return for the period affected under CDD declaring the 3 employees suspended. The 3 employees will receive 534 euros by the state. The other 2 officials will receive €303 from the State for the first 17 days of suspension and a pro rata share of their salary for the period 18-31 January.
  3. They keep the 100% of employees suspended as they choose to open without employees or not open at all. They submit two statements to «Ergani» : a statement for the period the business is closed by government order declaring all employees on suspension and another statement for the period it is affected under the CDD, again declaring all employees on suspension. All employees will receive 534 euros from the state.
