The authentic Greek sausage won first place in the Australian meat product awards.
This is the Greek sausage of Andrew Vourvahakis which was recognized as the Best sausage in Australia with the Champion Award, in the first Australian Charcuterie Excellence competition« organized by the Australian Meat Industry Council last week.
This competition is described as the leading event in the delicatessen sector, as it recognizes quality and excellence while also promoting recognition and standards within the industry.
Their company, Andrew's Choice, received 10 gold awards in this competition. It was the only company out of 350 participants that also won two first prizes, i.e. «Champion Awards.».
«This is a very proud moment for the art of Greek charcuterie and Greek culture and cuisine,» said Mr. Vourvahakis.
Mr. Vourvahakis emphasized the importance of widespread recognition of the humble Greek sausage saying that he would like «to share this reward with the entire Greek community, to use it as an opportunity to promote a new education around the rich history and diversity of Greek cuisine.».
«We want to teach them how to pronounce it, how to cook it, and how to enjoy it, just like the most common European sausage varieties,» he said, speaking about the recognition of Greek sausage. .
Andrew's Choice recently added sausage to its product range, saying that this was done to honor the family's history and Greek heritage.
