«Fire, woman, and sea,» they used to say. This is a clearly sexist approach. Wikipedia describes it as «a derogatory expression suggesting that women are one of the three evils of the world.».
But the fire remains. The recent fires in the Pieria Mountains and Lasithi reminded us that climate change is here and that increased fire protection measures are needed. A few days ago, a government decision was made that we must not only clear our fields of dry grass, etc. (something that is necessary and was already required in the past), but by April 30, 2024, we must submit a sworn statement (regarding the fulfillment of fire protection obligations for their properties) to the National Registry for the Maintenance of Preventive Fire Protection Measures for Properties, in which we must declare the work we have done to clear our plots of land... It is right to require us all to clean our properties (even though the forest often prevents us from doing so...), but the state does not take any care to fulfill its own obligations! If you haven't figured it out yet, our government, faithful to the doctrine of «it's the stationmaster's fault,» is already preparing us for who will be blamed in the event of a major fire: We will be blamed for not clearing our land... Now, the fact that the forests remain unprotected, that no preventive measures are being taken, that there are not enough firefighting forces, «that's what the communists say»...
-As far as the sea is concerned, the «threat» here is called the «Piraeus-Kythira-Antikythira-Crete ferry connection.» Now the «Sporades» has broken down. The Friday 5-4 route has been canceled. We are all extremely anxious, as it is clear that this year we may again have to make do with an unsuitable ship, a slow ship that is easily stopped by the weather, that does not have the power to maneuver in the port, that is at the mercy of the winds. Fortunately, however, I feel relieved that our mayor was elected to the SAS and informed us that he will propose realistic and feasible measures (not like those proposed by the opposition)... One question: after so many years as mayor, why didn't he tell us about the measures he would propose, but instead claimed he was not competent to do so?;
P.S. The above does not apply to Porfyros, who is consistent in his obligations!
-The Magistrate's Court of Kythira is also being abolished (after banks, ELTA, telecommunications, etc.). Do you recall any pre-election promises about «support for the periphery»? Well, forget about them. You might say, «Since there is a deputy mayor based in Athens, does your magistrate court really matter?» That's true...
-And something from us, the local media: Some people criticize (in general) those who promote, apart from the views of Trifyllio and the views of the Municipality of Alimos, the local association or ordinary citizens. It would therefore be good if they told us whether they want to take on the role of censor or whether they accept the principle that journalists worldwide have that «Publication is the lifeblood of democracy.». So if they suggest that news should be concealed, they should say so directly. Next time we'll name names!!!
-Finally, let's share some good news: On Sunday, April 7, the Karava Kythira Beautification and Cultural Association «Portokalia» held its election review meeting. If everything goes according to plan, then this summer will be even more interesting than last year. With lots of activities, great events, and high quality. The children of Karava are pioneers, and we applaud them!
