Paris: «We expect action from Turkey»
Paris is waiting for Turkey to take action ahead of the December European Council, which will discuss imposing new sanctions on Ankara, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said.
«It is not enough that for two or three days now we have been hearing conciliatory statements from President (Recep Tayyip) Erdogan; actions are needed.», said the French Foreign Minister on the program “Le Grand Jury RTL/Le Figaro/LCI,” while the Turkish president yesterday called on the European Union to engage in dialogue.
Among the actions expected are:, «There are those that are easy to do in the Eastern Mediterranean, in Libya, and there are also those that are easy to do in Nagorno-Karabakh.», he emphasized. «We have many disagreements.» with Ankara, pointed out the head of French diplomacy, citing the «Ankara's »expansionist ambitions", a «policy of fait accompli» in Libya, Iraq, and the Eastern Mediterranean, «where they are in fact attacking two Member States of the European Union, Greece and Cyprus» or even «in Nagorno-Karabakh, where they are sending mercenaries from Syria».
«The European Union announced in October that it would verify Turkey's stance on these various issues at the European Council meeting in December, in a few days» time. At that point, we will verify the commitments.", he concluded.
