Closed the Shipwreck for the thousands of tourists of Zakynthos

Only from a distance and on board the ships that carry them will be able to admire the unique beauty of Navagio, in Zakynthos, the thousands of tourists visiting the area, as stated in a decision of the port authority of Zakynthos, which was published in the Government Gazette. According to the decision, the exact limits of safe approach to the bay of Navagio were determined with a view to protecting human life and safeguarding order-safety and thus the general public interest during the tourist season.

Also the decision of the port of Zakynthos states that «it is prohibited inside the imaginary line which connects the two (02) ends (north and south) of the bay «Shipwreck» of Zakynthos according to (d) and (e) the anchoring of any floating motorized or non-motorized means, as well as taking a sea bath» and it is also noted that «their entry within the boundaries of the safe sea area in the bay «Navagio» will be carried out from the northern end of the bay «Navagio» of Zakynthos towards the southern end to exit it and the maximum time of their approach within the defined safe sea area from the entrance, from 08:00 to 15:30 at noon.

Details of the decision of the port authority of Zakynthos:

«Establishment of the limits of the safe maritime zone within which the approach of any motorised or non-motorised craft to the Bay of «Navagio» of Zakynthos is exclusively permitted.

THE PORT AUTHORITY OF ZAKYNTHOS

Having regard to:

α. Articles 9, 14, 188, 295 and 296 of the General Regulation of the Port of Zakynthos (B’ 330/1978).

β. Article 141 of Law 187/1973 on the K.D.N.D. (A’ 261).

ια. The continuing need to take emergency measures to protect human life and safeguard order-safety and, by extension, the public interest in general during the tourist season in Zakynthos Bay.

l. The fact that the provisions of this decision do not entail any expenditure to the state budget, we decide:

Exceptionally, and in accordance with the provisions of subparagraphs (e), (g), (h), (i) and (j), to establish the precise boundaries of the safe sea area in the bay of ’Navagio« of Zakynthos, which shall be enclosed between the geographical sea points as shown in the Annex attached hereto.

Within the maritime zone of paragraph 1 of this present, it is permitted under the sole responsibility of each master or captain or operator or lessee-hirer or lessee-lessor or lessee-assignee of each floating craft respectively, in conjunction with the existing operational capabilities of the latter and taking into account at the same time, at his discretion, the actual prevailing weather conditions (no, but not prohibitive of sailing in accordance with the provisions in force) and/or the phenomena of dredging, and at his own care and responsibility as regards ensuring the safe and immediate evacuation of all their occupants, the approach of each motorised or non-motorised floating craft shall be exclusively and exclusively as follows:

Ι. Their entry within the limits of the safe sea zone into the bay «Navagio» shall be carried out from the northern end of the bay «Navagio» of Zakynthos towards the southern end in order to exit it.

II. The maximum time of their approach within the defined safe sea area from their entrance to the bay «Shipwreck» of Zakynthos will be twenty (20) minutes of the hour.

III. From 08:00 to 15:30 of each day, the simultaneous approach of a total of fifteen (15) motorized or non-motorized vessels is allowed within the designated safe maritime zone of the bay of Nafplio Zakynthos, of which ten (10) will be vessels of other categories (private vessels/recreational vessels, leased vessels/boats/boats no. 38 GL - 20 GL) and non-motorised means of transport.
