An independent Cypriot state is established.
(Until then, Cyprus had been a British colony)

Here we have the first act of betrayal, because the Greek prime minister recognizes the Turkish minority on the island, which numbered nearly 18%,
to have
1. A Turkish Cypriot vice president with veto power

2. The 30% military positions would be filled by 18% of the Turkish Cypriot population on a mandatory basis
(i.e., he did the 18% and 30%)

3. Three of the ten ministers would have to be Turkish Cypriots.

4. It recognized Turkey as a guarantor power…

🔴 declared Cyprus independent, but without granting it the right to self-determination(!)
🔴 ruled out the complete or partial unification of Cyprus with another state
🔴 prohibited any activity along those lines.
🔴 established England, Greece, and Turkey as guarantor powers,
AND HE GAVE THEM THE ABILITY TO INTERVENE
in Cyprus, either jointly or unilaterally, IF THERE IS A VIOLATION…

On July 15, 1974, the Greek dictator Dimitris Ioannidis declared martial law in Cyprus
with
the National Guard of Cyprus,
ELDYK
and EOKA B.

Overthrows the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios
and
installs a «puppet» government led by journalist Nikos Sampson.
It was the PRETEXT the Turks were looking for…

4 days later,
Just like today—on that Friday, July 19, 1974,
At 5 p.m., a landing force sets out from Turkey for Cyprus.

Dimitris Ioannidis throughout his career
He was Papadopoulos's right-hand man.
🔴 In 1951, he was with Papadopoulos at IDEA
🔴 On the night of the coup, he was the commander of the Military Academy.
🔴 It is involved and occupies many key locations in the city.
🔴 In 1967, Papadopoulos appointed him head of the ESA.
🔴 In 1969, he was appointed director of the Ministry of National Defense.
🔴 In 1970, he was promoted to colonel.

🔴 In 1973, he was promoted to brigadier general…

On October 20, 1964, the government of Georgios Papandreou at the time,
decides to dispatch and install in Cyprus
a fully-staffed division
(3 infantry regiments, 2 commando squadrons, and 2 tank battalions)
and a force of 8,500 officers and enlisted personnel
and equipped with artillery as well
where
in conjunction with permanent fortifications
in particular
on the coasts of Kyrenia, Morphou, and Famagusta
are
a strong guarantee against Turkey's threats.
and in fact, nothing has been done for three years

on November 29, 1967,
Six months after the junta seized power,
Papadopoulos,
orders the Division to WITHDRAW from the island….
