The contract for the three desalination units has been signed

After a lengthy competitive process lasting more than a year, and following the approval of the competent Committee of the Court of Auditors, The contract for the supply and operation of three desalination units has been signed. Two of these units will be installed in Agia Patriki to reinforce the water supply in Agia Pelagia, and one unit will be installed in Diakofto.. Each unit has a capacity of 300 cubic meters of water per day.

The project has a budget of €1,720,000 including VAT and is financed entirely from its own resources. Attica Region, pursuant to a Program Agreement with the Municipality of Kythira. In addition to the supply of the units, the project also includes all accompanying works, networks, connections, and trial operation of the units.

As regards the settlement of Ag. Pelagia, will now be supplied by two desalination units with a capacity of 600 cubic meters per day, supplementing the network of boreholes. In addition, in conjunction with the major project of the new water supply network for the settlement, water sufficiency and quality are guaranteed for at least the next 25 years, in the most touristy settlement of Kythira, which has the most beds (in total) and therefore has correspondingly high consumption and needs.

With regard to Diakofiti, This will ensure sufficient drinking water in a settlement with very high growth prospects, which, among other things, is also an investment option for large real estate companies from abroad and will therefore soon require significant water supply support.

The contractor is the company TEMAK SA and the contract amount after the discount has been applied is €1,605,800 including VAT.

On the occasion of the signing of the contract, The Mayor of Kythira, Mr. Efstratios Charhalakis, made the following statement:

«Every commitment we make becomes reality. Every vision we have is transformed into a project. One of the most important development projects of recent years, the first three desalination units, will supply water to Agia Pelagia and Diakofto in a few months, just as we had promised. A project of substance and progress, which is being implemented with funding from the Region of Attica. A project of substance and progress, made possible with funding from the Region of Attica. Three more desalination plants are being put out to tender immediately: Paleopolis/Avlemonas, Kapsali, and Antikythira, with resources from the ‘ANTONIS TRITSIS’ program. With millions in funding for infrastructure projects, we will continue to work for the good of the region and to improve the quality of life for residents and visitors.».
