Maria Karystianou announced the establishment of a new political body called «XEKINAME, for Hope...». The new entity, which identifies itself as an «Independent Citizens» Movement", was launched on April 1, 2026, with the central goal of claiming truth, justice and radical change in the political scene of the country.
Through the official website of the movement (xekiname.gr), the motto of the new effort is given: «From I to We». As stated, this initiative was born from the grassroots of society, in response to the need for citizens not to settle «with the rotten».
The manifesto of the new Movement
The founding declaration of the organisation speaks of a historical necessity, stressing that silence has become heavier than injustice itself. «At such a time, we have chosen to speak out. Not because it is easy, but because it is the only thing that can keep us upright and keep Hope alive,» the document notes.
The «Independent Citizens» Movement« is described as the starting point of a collective struggle against the pathologies of the state. Its initiators stress that this movement does not belong to a single person, but to millions of active citizens who have decided to turn their righteous anger into action. »We invite you to become part of this united struggle for the rebirth of Greece. Because citizens and peoples can write history," the call reads.
The role of Maria Karystianou
On the movement's website there is a separate section dedicated to the person and struggle of Maria Karystianou. The text points out that her militancy, courage and clear stance against corruption have been an inspiration to a huge section of society.
According to the statement, the collective struggle that preceded it revealed criminal responsibilities and illuminated the dark sides of a clientele system that went unpunished. «We stand with Maria Karustianou, as we stand with every person who refuses to accept injustice as normality, with every person who is “prevented from walking”,» the statement concludes, setting the tone for the next steps of the movement.
