BIOGRAPHY

Glykeria was born in Serres, specifically in the village of Agio Pnevma.

From an early age, she was exposed to music by her family, which led to singing becoming ingrained in her from a very early age.

Her father and uncle played the bouzouki as amateurs. She grew up in an environment where folk and traditional songs played a leading role. Smyrna songs, which echoed from the gramophones of the village's discerning Asia Minor refugees, but also heavy folk songs, which dripped with complaints in the thunderous and boisterous voices of Payoumtsis, Tsaousakis, Kazantzidis, and Perpiniadis.

Festivals and family gatherings with their warm atmosphere, convivial mood, record players, and 45 rpm records were also a great music school.

From her high school years, Glykeria began to stand out for her vocal abilities, and her classmates encouraged her to sing at every event. She never missed an opportunity to perform well-known pop songs from the 1960s and, of course, traditional folk songs, which always held a special place in her heart and soul. The paths of life led her to Athens.

1974/1976—At the suggestion of Nikos Danikas, she makes her first appearance at the tavern «Litto» in Plaka.
