The first trailer for the new biographical film about Whitney Houston's life has been released.
I Wanna Dance With Somebody stars Naomi Aki as Whitney Houston, while Stanley Tucci takes on the role of producer and former music industry mentor Clive Davis.
The film starts the narrative from her first steps in singing in a church choir and the signing of her first recording contract.
Then we see Naomi Aki in some of the iconic moments of the famous singer, including the music videos for the songs How Will I Know, I Will Always Love You and It's Not Right But It's OK, clips from the filming of The Bodyguard and the moment she sings the American national anthem at the Super Bowl.
The two-minute teaser also hints that the film will explore her relationships with her mother, Cece Houston, her ex-husband Bobby Brown and her assistant and close friend Robin Crawford.
As stated in the synopsis of the biopic, it will be «a no-holds-barred portrait of the complex and multi-faceted woman behind The Voice».
«From being a New Jersey chorus girl to becoming one of the best-selling and most awarded recording artists of all time, audiences are treated to an inspiring, poignant - and very emotional - journey through Houston's life and career, with moments from her performances soundtracked by some of her most beloved hits as we've never heard them before.».
The film is directed by Cassie Lemmons and written by Anthony McCarten, writer of Bohemian Rhapsody, The Theory of Everything and The Two Popes.
The film's star Naomi Aki has a Bafta TV award under her belt for her performance in the comedy The End Of The Fucking World, and has appeared in Master Of None, Steve McQueen's mini-series Small Axe and Star Wars, The Rise Of Skywalker.
Known for her incredible vocal abilities, Whitney Houston has had a number of major hits during her career.
She was found dead in a hotel bathtub in 2012 at the age of 48. The singer's cause of death was accidental drowning, with heart disease and cocaine use being contributing factors.
«I Wanna Dance With Somebody» will be released in cinemas in December.
