Al. Tsipras: «The Maximos“ ”scrutiny» is a disgrace to journalism."

No matter how much dust Mr Mitsotakis sends to the media, citizens are experiencing the dramatic consequences of his inaction.

«At a time when control is out of control, both in the health and the economic crisis, Mr Mitsotakis is busy giving orders to the pro-government press to attack SYRIZA - Progressive Alliance and me personally,» Alexis Tsipras said in a Facebook post.

It stresses that «as many dustballs, however, and send Mr Mitsotakis to the media that stonewall him, unfortunately - for all of us - citizens are now experiencing daily the wounds from the dramatic effects of his inaction.» The president of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, who accompanies his post with screenshots from two news websites (Liberal, Proto Thema) on which he bases his accusation against the prime minister, notes that «obviously they do not touch me», «but they are a shame for the decline of the media and for the degeneration of the free press and democracy».

Tsipras said that «the second wave of the pandemic finds the country unprotected and the NHS unprepared, with the sole responsibility of the government of Mr Mitsotakis, who allowed 8 months to pass by, self-inflicted». He notes that «even today, with more than 1,500 cases a day, a sharp increase in deaths and the NHS at its limits, instead of taking immediate measures to strengthen the NHS, for permanent recruitment of doctors, for mass free diagnostic tests, for an increase in ICU beds and decongestion of the chaotic situation in public transport, all he is interested in is communication».

Response from Maximos

Avoiding responding to the substance of the facts (i.e. that «Proto Thema» and «Liberal» published a note allegedly sent to them by the government), Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and government spokesman Stelios Petsas commented on the post by SYRIZA leader Tsipras.

Specifically, Mr.Petsas says «Mr.Tsipras made a post to say that allegedly “Mr.Mitsotakis gives orders to the pro-government press”. Let him not judge otherwise. Because what Mr. Tsipras presents as an alleged line is what the Prime Minister said publicly at the cabinet meeting, calling the targeting of Professor Sotiris Tsiodras systematic and unacceptable.».

«Mr Tsipras should stop being evasive and answer directly: Mr Tsipras, do you welcome the attack that Mr Tsiodras is being attacked by your MPs and your party?» the government spokesman concludes.
