A series of political initiatives on precision, pandemic, unemployment, social exclusion, proposed the president of SYRIZA-PS, Alexis Tsipras, the meeting of the Political Council of the party on Wednesday 20/10, and the holding of the 3rd Congress of the party after a three-month campaign and political and economic excursion with the registration of new members and programmatic regional conferences open to local communities.
In his statement, according to information from Koumoundourou, he said:
«We are entering a difficult winter, prices are rising daily and the purchasing power of households is decreasing rapidly. The government's repeated failures will increase social pressure ... One in three households are already under severe pressure, even before the new explosive increases in electricity prices and the market. Already, there is a 40% increase in the price of oil, while 37% of businesses are facing the spectre of closure.».
In this context, he argued, «our proposal for an immediate increase of the minimum wage to 800 euros is of utmost importance and must become our front page» and continued: «At the same time that the price of electricity in our country is breaking European records, the government of Mr. Mitsotakis divests 17% of PPC, resulting in the loss of public control of the Company at an extremely critical juncture. During our period of government, the PPC played a balancing role in the market through its pricing policy. At the PPC we proposed a package of measures to address the price squeeze, such as a reduction in excise duty on fuel and a number of other interventions, such as tackling the energy cartel through Competition Commission inspections. What did Mr. Mitsotakis; It has shown, firstly, that it is not even capable of realising the scale of the crisis and therefore the scale of the necessary interventions and, secondly, lacks the political will to take action to support and protect the grassroots and the middle class. So the way we are going, this winter will be very difficult for households and businesses, compared to 2012-2013.».
According to the same information, it was reported in Recovery Fund, underlining: «All indications are that the Recovery Fund will not be used for the benefit of society. It is already apparent that the recovery plan will not be used to its full potential. there is a very big problem with absorption in the resources of the. And of course we have to monitor the way things are going in relation to the banks, since their credit criteria exclude the vast majority of small and medium-sized enterprises from its resources.».
Policy initiatives
In this context, the President of SYRIZA proposed the following political initiatives for the coming period:
- Political campaign of SYRIZA - PC to tackle the unprecedented wave of inaccuracy and the household and business protection, in order to communicate in detail and without mediation to the citizens the positions, the demands, the commitments of the party.
- Political initiative for the an immediate increase in the minimum wage, with the submission of a legislative proposal to raise it to 800 euros and the simultaneous tabling of a motion for a debate in Parliament.
- Taking the initiative, in consultation with other opposition parties, to set up a parliamentary committee to monitor and control the use of the resources of the Recovery Fund, down to the last euro.
– Continuation of the vaccination campaign that we have already decided on, with targeted interventions for vulnerable groups (refugees, migrants, homeless people, drug addicts).
For the Congress of SYRIZA PS
«The time has come to move forward in a coordinated way to complete our planning for the organisational reconstruction, enlargement and qualitative transformation of the party. To pick up the thread again, culminating in a conference of intersection and continuity that will give us impetus in our struggle for a new political and social majority and the political change that will bring progressive governance», said Alexis Tsipras, speaking in particular about the SYRIZA PS Conference.
More specifically, he recommended:
1. Quarterly dash and political campaign for new member registration, as well as holding regional conferences, open to society, in all regions, with the aim of refining our programmatic positions for each region.
2. Convocation of the Central Reconstruction Committee next Saturday 23/10, in order to decide on the convening of the 3rd Congress and the formation of the :
- The Central Organising Committee of the Congress.
- The Decision Committee
- The Statute Committee
As for the timetable, the President of SYRIZA PS proposed:
- The rush to register new members should start immediately and the lists of members who will take part in the election of delegates should be closed in the Member Organisations and isyriza on 15 January 2022.
- From 10 to 14 February, the elections to the OMs of the delegates of the 3rd Congress will take place.
- The 3rd Congress of SYRIZA PS to be held on 24-27 February in Athens.
