Astypalea has been captivating Brazilian television media with its natural beauty lately. The Rede Mais Familia television station, which broadcasts to 90 million households in over 90 cities in Brazil, is promoting the «butterfly of the Aegean» by showcasing its exotic beaches, picturesque villages, impressive windmills in Chora, and environmental innovations aimed at making Astypalea the first «smart» and sustainable island destination in the Mediterranean.
The show was filmed during the summer on the initiative of the municipality. «In recent years, Astypalea has become a magnet for travelers with environmental sensibilities and special interests, both from Greece and abroad. Ferry arrivals by the end of August broke the 2022 barrier, setting a new and very impressive record. Also, for the period up to the end of September, air arrivals increased significantly by 21% compared to the previous year. Europe is no longer the only “reservoir” of tourists, as our island is now visited by tourists from more distant markets, such as countries in the Americas. Our call for holidays in a model destination full of history, traditions, natural beauty, and gastronomy that promotes authenticity, respects the environment, and resists mass tourism has also contributed to strengthening our extroversion,“ said the mayor of the island, Nikos Komineos.
