«Institutional War» by Nikos Androulakis on Constitutional Revision

The president of PASOK-Movement for Change is launching a head-on confrontation with the government, making institutional reforms, the independence of public institutions, and the protection of the rule of law.

The political debate over the constitutional amendment process is in full swing, with the president of PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, declaring «institutional war» against the government’s decisions.

According to a report by in.gr, ... Mr. Androulakis is expected to speak from the floor of Parliament in a firm tone, presenting a comprehensive and independent policy proposal for changes to the country’s Constitution, thereby completely distancing his position from the tactics of the governing majority.

The main pillars of Androulakis's initiative

The PASOK president’s speech focuses on key issues related to transparency and the strengthening of institutions:

  • Justice and Principles: A change in the process for selecting judicial leadership and a strengthening of the independence of independent authorities, so that they are not subject to government interference.
  • Ministers' Responsibility: Repeal or substantially amend the favorable provisions regarding ministerial liability, with the aim of ensuring equality before the law.
  • Protection of Public Goods: Constitutional enshrinement of the protection of the environment, public health, and education as fundamental social rights.
  • Political System: Establishing rules that will prevent the abuse of power and ensure a balance of powers.

Sources at Harilaou Trikoupou Street are making it clear that PASOK will not become an «accomplice» in a revision process that they believe is intended to serve short-term political expediency, but will fight back with well-documented counterproposals that address society’s genuine demands for transparency and justice.
