Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the Civil Protection Crisis Management and Operations Coordination Center this morning, accompanied by Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou, where he was briefed on the progress of the wildfires across the country, particularly the fire in Porto Germeno.
As noted, strong winds continue to prevail in the area, affecting the operations of aerial resources. Even today, due to turbulence, aircraft are unable to drop water, and for this reason, only helicopters continue to operate. At the same time, additional ground forces have been deployed, while Special Forestry Operations Units have penetrated and are operating in hard-to-reach areas.
Following the briefing, the group discussed the issue of erosion control projects, which will begin immediately in the affected areas, as well as the assessment of damage for the purpose of state aid.
