His resignation from the position of press secretary for «Hope for Democracy,» the political party led by Maria Karystianou, making clear criticisms of the party’s operations.
In a social media post, Thanasis Avgerinos clarified that for several days now he has had no responsibility for the organization’s communications and no longer represents it in the media.
At the same time, he claimed that he was informed after the fact that, at least since July 12, a «parallel press office» had been operating within the party, without him being aware of its composition.
His remarks were particularly pointed, as he spoke of «suspicious and planted backroom advisors,» who, he said, pose a problem for any collective organization and even more so for an independent citizens’ movement.
The now-former press secretary also noted that everyone must take responsibility for their actions and omissions, concluding his post with the phrase «Each person must bear the consequences of their own actions,’ and announcing that, for the time being, he has chosen to take a few days off.
Avgerinos’ resignation and the allegations of parallel communication channels point to a clear internal dysfunction within the newly formed political party, raising questions about the decision-making process, the division of responsibilities, and the relationships among those close to its leadership.
