The Oscar-winning, Michael Douglas returns to the small screen with its new series AppleTV+ «Franklin», which recounts an important moment in the life of Benjamin Franklin, one of the US nationalists.
The series eight episodes, which will be directed by the award-winning Tim Van Patten, based on the book «A Great Improv: Franklin, France and the Birth of America» by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Stacey Schiff, focuses on one of the biggest bets of his life, when at the age of 70 and without diplomatic training, he managed to convince the French monarchy to finance American independence, in other words, America's experiment in democracy.
«While planning the French-American alliance of 1778 and the final peace with England in 1783, Franklin outmaneuvered British spies, French informers and rival colleagues thanks to his reputation, charisma and ingenuity,» the summary says. «The eight-year “French Mission” is Franklin's most vital service to his country, without which America would not have won the Revolution.».
In addition to Michael Douglas, who will play Benjamin Franklin (the photo below is the first image released), the series, which has yet to have a premiere date, also stars Noah Jupe, Ludivine Channier, Thibault de Montalembert, Daniel Mace, Asaad Boub, Eddie Marsan, Jean Balibar and Theodor Pellerin.

Benjamin Franklin (1706 - 1790) was one of the founding fathers of the United States of America and one of the most complex figures in history. He was a scientist, inventor, author, printer, social activist, political theorist and diplomat. He is the only one of the founding fathers of the American nation to have signed all four founding documents that ratified the transformation of the British colonies into an independent nation: the Declaration of Independence, the Treaty with France, the Treaty of Peace with England, and the first U.S. Constitution. He was a polymath, with a very distinguished body of writing and a huge public appeal.
He was also the first American scientist to be recognized internationally. His work includes, among other things, the formulation of a theory of electric action in which he explains charge generation and movement as well as induction charging. He was also concerned with the idea of the existence of an electric fluid and the principle of conservation of electric charge. He was the first to propose the terms positive and negative electric charge. His main achievement, however, was the invention of the lightning rod.
