The new President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas, who succeeds the former President of the Council of State, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, in the highest state office, was sworn in before the Parliament.
After taking the oath of office in the Parliament, the new President of the Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas, laid a wreath at the monument of the Unknown Soldier and then headed to the Presidential Palace.
There he was welcomed by the outgoing President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou for the handover ceremony.
Upon the arrival of Mr.Tasoulas, Ms.Sakellaropoulou said «I congratulate you on your election and welcome you to the Presidency of the Republic. I wholeheartedly wish you every success in your duties. Your previous term as Speaker of the Parliament and your significant political career as a politician who consistently serves the values and ideals of the nation and fosters democratic consensus, are guarantees for the best possible fulfilment of your work. You are taking over in uncertain times, with many tensions at home and abroad, in a world in transition and in an era of repeated crises. The unifying and symbolic speech and role of the President of the Republic, his commitment to the Constitution and the laws and his contact with society strengthen confidence in the constitution and hope for the progress of our country. I am confident that this is the direction in which you will proceed, Mr. President. And for my part, I will be at your disposal.».
For his part, Constantinos Tasoulas said, among other things, that «Madam President, in this landscape and these challenges and with my responsibilities defined by the Constitution, I am called and obliged firstly to defend the observance of the Constitution and the harmonious and reliable functioning of the institutions. Secondly, to defend the national integrity and thirdly, the general interest, the rights and progress of the Greek people.».
