The problem of accumulation of garbage in the intersection of “Hard” to the traditional settlement of Aloysians. This is a particularly unpleasant phenomenon, which highlighted in a report by the Adelin radio station on 29 March and in which came back on Sunday, 05/06.
The articles, which are accompanied by a rich photo reportage, show a large number of useless objects and rubbish scattered outside and around the bulky waste bin.
In a communication with Adelin FM, Mrs. Elina Galanopoulou, owner of the business of renting rooms ’’Aloysians 1768’’, pointed out the extent and severity of the problem, which highlighted and with a post on Facebook, which blames most of the responsibility on the mayor of Kythera, Efstratios Harhalakis.
The post of Ms. Galanopoulou states:
«During the Mayoralty of Efstratios Harhalakis! this sign that has been put on various “projects” in our islands should be put here where the other has fallen: Prohibited..., and that soon the triangular sign of the Traffic Police warning of danger is also falling down. Here where the rubbish still leaves the Cypriot roads visible in the background. In every village that has volumes of rubbish that the wind when it blows hard scatters it all over the island.
Hello, Mayor! who never went to see the garbage rotting for nine months everywhere, but be glad not to tell me about the garbage management area you built because it is obviously useless.
Hello Mayor! which three basic goods and services every place has: Garbage collection and sanitation, water supply and roads. But soon you will be drying us out again, no matter how much we rot all winter from rain, hail and snow, you will be telling us that we are wasting on crops, lawns and swimming pools and we will be begging tourists not to consume liquids and not to change their sheets. The network has been carved out since the Anglo-Saxon era, but it needs care. I drove from the north to the south and was begging for the spare tire to hold up when I hit another pothole outside the Caves at night.
Hello, Mayor! where every household pays its municipal fees and every business pays its visitor's fees with no return on the basics.
Hello, Mayor! who doesn't care when we are embarrassed by the comments and remarks of tourists and blame you and adorn you with the worst.
Hello, Mayor! for having written to me since the first post on 24 May with photos and comments about this unacceptable situation, but you don't care about our mess, and about any mess on Kythera.
Hello, Mayor, for having a strong stomach and enduring the outrage when you didn't even bother to walk your island and see the horrors.»
Γ. Count: the area will be cleared within days
Kythera.News contacted the Deputy Mayor, in charge of cleaning, Mr. George Kominos, who told us that the work of collecting garbage and waste from various parts of the island has been entrusted to a private person. In this context, it is expected that this particular area will be cleaned within the next few days. However, the Commissioner insisted that the issue is primarily about the lack of individual responsibility of some residents.
