Data on the number of airborne firefighting resources that operated in the Attica fires, SYRIZA PS asks the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, with Stefanos Kasselakis stressing in a post on social media that «the Greek people deserve to know the truth».
«Because during my visit to the Civil Protection Coordinating Committee I myself saw only three aircraft operating in the system in the wider area of Attica, SYRIZA, through our sectoral leader Simeon Kedikoglou, made the following official request. Because the Greek people deserve to know the truth,» the SYRIZA President of the PC said.
Mr. Kasselakis quotes the «request for data» of Mr. Kedikoglou to the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias:
«Dear Minister,
Following our visit, on 12/08/2024, to the Ministry's Operations Centre, where we were briefed on the devastating fires affecting Attica, the Chief of the Fire Brigade said, among other things, that since the beginning of the fire, a total of 32 airborne firefighting resources have been operating.
However, both media reports and testimonies from residents question the reported number of air assets operating.
In order to provide full information to the Greek people, who have the right to know, I am conveying to you, as the responsible Sectoral Head of the SYRIZA-PS CO, the request of the Official Opposition, and personally of President St. Kasselakis, to provide us with the material from the relevant recording system, as well as the file with the relevant flight permissions, from the beginning of the fire in Attica, until 21:30, when the aircraft stopped flying due to darkness.
We intend to ask for the data through parliamentary channels as well, but because this is a more time-consuming process, we are asking for immediate answers that the public has a right to know.
Thank you and I look forward to,
Simeon Kedikoglou
Member of Parliament of Evia
Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection of SYRIZA-PS».
