Autumn elections - Why Mitsotakis rejected the polls before the summer

Maximou seeks to close the Recovery Fund first, to appoint the leadership of the Supreme Court and «close» the case of wiretapping - Reformation to «calm» the Parliamentary Group - The Prime Minister finalizes his decisions at Easter - Exclusive information.

It is now a common belief - also in the Maximos building - that the government cannot exhaust its four-year term. Regardless of the fact that the Prime Minister, through his spokesman, insists that the elections will be held in 2027 and that the government will exhaust the four-year term, the decision seems to have been made: Elections in the autumn. Maximou flirted a lot with the idea of an early election in early summer, but this development was eventually rejected for specific reasons which have been reported in detail by Dnews from the very first moment.

  • First, the government should appoint the leadership of the judiciary, whose term of office expires on 30 June. With so many scandals and many other cases open, Mitsotakis considers it inconceivable that the new president and the new prosecutor of the Supreme Court should not be appointed by his government and even with a «dip» in the yearbook so that the new leadership has time ahead of it.
  • Second, «close» in September the Recovery Fund so that the Prime Minister is not accused of being responsible for the loss of billions.
  • Thirdly, to «clear up» (i.e. cover up) the major wiretapping scandal by the autumn, with the government and part of the judiciary «working» in this direction with a specific timetable.
  • Fourth, there should be the announcement of a «package» at the Thessaloniki International Fair, as citizens see their purchasing power constantly declining and punctuality being their number one problem especially after the war despite the government's constant triumphalism about raising wages and containing prices.
  • Fifth, while the war in the Persian is ongoing or in a fragile truce, going to early elections would be a real folly, especially as the country is actually participating, however indirectly, in the attack by the United States and Israel against Iran.
  • Sixth, a ballot box before or in early summer would not start the Constitutional Review, a top institutional process that is being instrumentalized for petty partisan reasons by the Mitsotakis government.

Reform to «calm» the Parliamentary Group

At the same time, according to the information, the Prime Minister will proceed with a reshuffle in late spring, in order to «calm» the Parliamentary Group, even if this seems difficult; the «Power Games» will report on this in a forthcoming report. Transformation in conjunction with the Congress of the ruling party next May. But details coming soon.
