A new research project has been launched at the Laboratory of Environmental Technology and Management of the Technical University of Crete, in the context of the continuous exploration of alternative sustainable technologies for the desalination and treatment of highly saline liquids and the production of clean water from alternative sources.
The project is funded by the Intermunicipal Solid Waste Management Enterprise, DEDISA S.A. (OTA).
Kostas Paterakis, general manager of the intermunicipal solid waste management company spoke to ERT3«s »Perimeter" programme about this innovative system.
«The idea came from the treatment of wastewater from the drainage we have at the plant and at the landfills, where we have biological treatment and it works with an innovative advanced reverse osmosis system, which consumes conventional energy. In our minds we had in mind how to harness solar energy. We managed to design this innovative project that includes eight wastewater and water treatment plants and they have started their pilot operation,» Paterakis said, among other things, explaining how the system will work and its multiple benefits.
