In reduction of the ENFIA by 8 percentage points, the government is oriented, as stated by the Minister of Finance Christos Staikouras, speaking on the show «Hellenic Hour» on OPEN television.
Mr Staikouras reiterated that there is a possibility of new tax and contribution reductions from 2022, although this will depend on the revenue trend. In any case, he said a clear picture will be available in October, when the draft Budget.
«Good picture on budget revenues»
«We have a good revenue picture, plus €2 billion compared to last year. Industrial production and tourism are doing well. (...) If this trend continues over the period, and because of the turbulence in the health sector worldwide, we will have a better picture of the country's growth in 2021. When we have all these data, we will weigh them up and submit a draft budget for 2022 at the beginning of October. Then we will have a picture of the fiscal space in 2022, so we will have a picture - which will obviously also give us a preview in TIF on what possibilities we will have to make further reductions in taxes and contributions.».
He noted that resources are available to support households and businesses in case of a new pandemic wave. «We have fiscal slack, we will have slack in 2022, but our moves have to be measured to have fiscal balance,» he said.
Ο κ. Staikouras, stressed that the new ENFIA will fixed in November. «Then we will have a picture of the exercise running and incorporating the new property values. We have committed that there will be no overall burden on the ENVIA. But the fact is that there have been distortions in previous years between objective and commercial values. And these distortions must be addressed. At the same time we have a pending further reduction of ENVIA by 8%. As we had promised during the election, our first action was to reduce ENVIA by 22%. This pending is there and is among the things we are looking at for 2022.».
