The tourist season starts today on the island of Rhodes, with the first charter flights at the airport «Diagoras» and the first hotels have already opened for the accommodation of tourists.
There are high expectations for the development of the season in the ranks of local tourism operators, but also legitimate concerns due to the ongoing war in Ukraine and its side effects.
For today, however, a total of 9 flights have been scheduled, while the first tourists will be welcomed by a delegation of the Municipality of Rhodes.
The first aircraft from abroad rolled into Rhodes from Germany and specifically from Frankfurt, with the company “Super Transport”. A few hours later, at 12.50 pm the next arrival is expected from Bristol (England) with Easy Jet, at 16.55 Ryanair from Bergamo (Italy), followed by the following flights during the day: 18.55 Ryanair from Stansted (London), 19.15 Ryanair from Charleroi (Belgium), 20.15 Ryanair from Manchester (England), 21.35 Ryanair from East Midlands (England), 22.05 Easy Jet from Gatwick Airport (England) and finally another flight at 23.00 with Ryanair from Bologna (Italy).
In total, 38 charters are expected on the days of March and several flights are scheduled for April.
At around ten to one at noon, the members of the Municipality's Tourism Department will be at the airport «Diagoras» with a band and will give the symbolic gifts, i.e. local products.
In the markets that have so far shown interest in arrivals, i.e. in the first week we will see visitors from Britain, France, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Poland and possibly Israel. Also, most hotels on the island, around 80%, have set their opening dates to the end of April. However, a significant number of hotels are opening from April 1 and from contacts so far, occupancy is quite satisfactory for the season.
