Kythera and Antikythera need practical support, through policies and interventions that will protect the environment and allow residents to continue to live and work in their place.
The recent announcements of the government, as presented by the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection Costas Katsafados, are fragmentary and inadequate. We call on the government to respond in a meaningful way to the needs of the stricken island.
It is imperative that the government implements a comprehensive regional development plan, as requested by local stakeholders and proposed in detail by the Kythera Members Organization of SYRIZA PS.
We call on all citizens to support Kythera in every possible way. Despite the fact that 10% of the total area of the island has been burnt, the inhabitants of Kythera are still fighting their daily battle for survival in their beloved place. In this struggle of the residents, we have to stand by their side expressing our solidarity.
It is worth noting that for the consequences of the devastating fire that hit the island of Kythera, but also for the need for immediate restoration and compensation of the victims, a question was asked in Parliament by the Minister of Infrastructure & Transport, Shipping & Island Policy of SYRIZA-PS Alexandros Meikopoulos, co-signed by 14 MPs of SYRIZA-PS.
SYRIZA PS will continue to fight at all levels, both in Parliament and the Region, as well as in Kythera itself, for the radical and final solution of the problems, but also for the productive reconstruction of the island.
